The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is the apex integrity institution in India, established to address governmental corruption and ensure transparency and accountability within the central administrative machinery. It was initially set up in 1964 as an advisory body to the Government of India following the recommendations of the Committee on Prevention of Corruption, headed by K. Santhanam. The CVC was later given statutory status through the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003, which strengthened its independence, powers, and functions in the fight against corruption.
