An effective distance education institution / system require a sound learner support services. It is essential to ensure the successful delivery of learning experiences at a distance. The amount of support services an institution can offer largely depends on that particular institution’s capacity and resources at its disposal. However, this can be categorized in two parts:

Academic, including such packages as tutorial, advising and counselling services.

Administrative, such as enrolment; admission and registration; record keeping; information provision; and delivery of study materials.

Helping learners understand their learning orientations, strengths, and areas of improvements.
