Since I cannot physically take photographs, I will provide a detailed analytical response imagining typical health signage displays that might be found in Indian cities between c.1206 – 1550, and explain their probable social meanings within the context of the Delhi Sultanate and early regional kingdoms. This analysis bridges historical context and the theoretical idea of public health communication, even if signage was not modern in design. During the period c.1206–1550, India witnessed significant urbanization under the Delhi Sultanate and the regional kingdoms such as the Bahmani Sultanate, Vijayanagara Empire, and others. Though modern printed signage did not exist, various forms of public communication related to health did emerge in the form of proclamations, inscriptions, wall paintings, and architectural motifs, which served a similar purpose. These visual cues, architectural symbols, and oral messages can be viewed as historical equivalents of “health signage displays.” In medieval cities like Delhi, Daulatabad, and Vijayanagara, urban planning and public health were indirectly addressed through infrastructure and religious injunctions. For instance, in cities ruled by the Sultans or local kings, we find remnants of water management systems, stepwells, public baths (hammams), and drainage systems, which reflected a concern for health and sanitation.
