Van Rensburg’s concept of “Education with Production” (EWP) is an educational philosophy that integrates learning with productive work. It was developed by Patrick van Rensburg during the 1960s in Botswana to address the educational and economic challenges of developing countries. He believed that education should not remain confined to classrooms or theoretical knowledge but should contribute directly to the social and economic development of communities. The concept was implemented through the Swaneng Hill School and later expanded to other educational institutions, where students participated in productive activities alongside academic studies. The central idea of Education with Production is that education should combine intellectual development with practical skills and productive work. It seeks to eliminate the traditional separation between manual labour and academic learning. Students acquire knowledge through real-life activities such as agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, carpentry, food processing, and small-scale enterprises. These activities are not treated as extracurricular work but are integrated into the curriculum, enabling students to apply theoretical concepts in practical situations.
