Question
Samavāya
Answer :
Word Count : 499
Samavāya is an important metaphysical concept in Indian philosophy, especially in the Vaiśeṣika school, where it denotes the relation of inseparable inherence between two entities. The term is derived from the Sanskrit root “sam-i,” suggesting conjunction, association, or coming together. Unlike ordinary relations, Samavāya is regarded as an eternal and necessary relation that connects entities which cannot exist separately in the particular manner in which they are related. The Vaiśeṣika philosopher Kaṇāda recognizes Samavāya as one of the fundamental categories or padārthas. Later Vaiśeṣika thinkers developed its theory in greater detail. According to them, certain things are so intimately connected that their separation is impossible without destroying the existence or identity of one of the relata. The relation connecting such entities is called Samavāya. ____ _____ ___ _______ __________ _________ ________.
