Scheduled Tribes (STs) in India represent a significant segment of the population that has historically faced social, economic, and political marginalization. Despite constitutional safeguards, they continue to experience challenges that hinder their development and integration into mainstream society. Understanding the major problems faced by scheduled tribes is essential for framing effective policies and ensuring inclusive development. One of the foremost problems of scheduled tribes is economic deprivation. Many ST communities rely on traditional occupations such as hunting, gathering, shifting cultivation, and small-scale agriculture. These livelihoods are often low-yield and insufficient to meet basic needs. The lack of access to modern technology, irrigation facilities, credit, and markets further exacerbates poverty. High unemployment and underemployment rates are common among STs, resulting in poor income levels and dependence on government aid or low-paying labor jobs.
