Workers’ Participation in Management (WPM) is a management practice in which employees are given a role in the decision-making process of the organization. It represents a shift from the traditional employer–employee relationship, where decisions are made exclusively by the management, to a more collaborative approach where workers’ views, experiences, and suggestions are considered in the running of the enterprise. The underlying philosophy is based on industrial democracy, which emphasizes that workers, being integral stakeholders, should have a say in the affairs of the organization, especially in matters affecting their work environment, productivity, and welfare. The concept of WPM rests on the principle that organizations can perform more efficiently when employees are involved in the formulation of policies and decisions. The rationale for WPM is supported by both economic and psychological arguments. From an economic standpoint, worker participation can lead to cost reduction through better decision-making and reduced industrial disputes. From a psychological perspective, it taps into human needs for recognition, respect, and self-expression.
