India’s organised retail sector has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments of the Indian economy. It includes department stores, supermarkets, hypermarkets, specialty stores, shopping malls, branded outlets, e-commerce and omnichannel retailers. The sector is being driven by rising disposable incomes, urbanisation, a growing middle class, changing lifestyles, greater brand awareness and increasing digital adoption. India’s overall retail market has expanded rapidly and is expected to grow substantially by 2030. Organised retail is projected to reach about US$230 billion by 2030.
