Good governance in the Indian context has evolved as a central theme in administrative reforms and public service delivery, especially since the liberalization of the economy in the early 1990s. It encompasses the principles of transparency, accountability, rule of law, responsiveness, inclusiveness, and efficiency. In India, both the central and state governments, along with local bodies and civil society organizations, have launched several initiatives to promote good governance, aligning with democratic ideals and developmental needs. These efforts are particularly significant in a diverse and populous country like India, where administrative challenges are enormous. One of the landmark frameworks in promoting good governance in India is the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), launched in 2006. This plan aimed to make all government services accessible to the common man through electronic means. A series of Mission Mode Projects (MMPs) were introduced under this plan in sectors such as banking, income tax, passport issuance, and land records. By promoting the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technology), the NeGP attempted to bring efficiency, reduce corruption, and ensure greater citizen-centric service delivery. A significant good governance reform was the implementation of the Right to Information Act (RTI), 2005. This act marked a paradigm shift in transparency by empowering citizens to seek information from public authorities.
