The increasing participation of women in local self-government has created new opportunities for leadership, decision-making, and community development. Elected women representatives (EWRs) have demonstrated that effective leadership is not limited by gender. Their experiences reveal both the challenges they face and the positive changes they bring to society. The following four case studies illustrate the role of elected women representatives in promoting gender empowerment and grassroots democracy. The first case study is of Chhavi Rajawat, the Sarpanch of Soda village in Rajasthan. She is widely known for leaving a successful corporate career to serve her native village. After being elected as the village head, she focused on improving drinking water facilities, sanitation, education, and infrastructure.
