Dendrochronology is the scientific method of determining the age and studying the history of trees by examining their annual growth rings. The word is derived from three Greek words: “dendron” meaning tree, “chronos” meaning time, and “logos” meaning study. It is commonly known as tree-ring dating. Dendrochronology is an important technique in environmental studies, archaeology, palaeoecology and Physical/Biological Anthropology because tree rings preserve information about past environmental and climatic conditions. Most trees in temperate and some other regions produce a new growth ring every year.
