Classical conditioning and Operant conditioning

Operant Conditioning theory of learning was given by Skinner. The operant theory supports and believes that a learner’s response is instrumental in producing a reinforcing stimulus.  It signifies that the response that produces the reinforcement becomes stronger and the response that does not produce reinforcement becomes weaker.

Skinner explained the theory of operant conditioning with the help of simple box where liver was fitted at its ends. The liver is like a switch that operates as food-delivering mechanism. A hungry rat was placed inside at the box. It was observed earlier that the rat is sitting idle in the box.
