The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) is a comprehensive health care scheme for the employees of the Central Government, retired government employees, and their dependents. The scheme was established in 1954 to provide medical facilities to Central Government employees at a reasonable cost.

The CGHS provides medical services through its network of dispensaries, polyclinics, and hospitals. The scheme covers allopathic, homoeopathic, and Ayurvedic systems of medicine. The scheme also provides facilities for diagnostic tests, hospitalization, and specialist consultations.

The CGHS is administered by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The scheme is funded by the Central Government through a grant-in-aid. The scheme is currently operational in more than 70 cities across India.
