National Health Policy -2017 

The National Health Policy 2017 is a policy document released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It replaces the previous policy that was released in 2002. The new policy aims to provide affordable and quality healthcare to all citizens of India, which is aligned with the government's overall goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030. Key features of the National Health Policy 2017:

1. Increase in healthcare spending: The policy aims to increase public health spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2025, up from the current 1.5%. This increased funding will help improve the availability of healthcare infrastructure, equipment, and manpower.

2. Strengthening primary healthcare: The policy emphasizes the need to strengthen primary healthcare, which includes health and wellness centers, to provide comprehensive healthcare services. These centers will provide preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative care for non-communicable diseases, communicable diseases, maternal and child health services, and emergency services.

3. Addressing the burden of non-communicable diseases: The policy recognizes the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer, and lays emphasis on their prevention and management. The policy also aims to reduce the prevalence of tobacco and alcohol use in the country.

4. Strengthening public health infrastructure: The policy aims to improve the health infrastructure in the country by increasing the number of healthcare facilities, upgrading the existing facilities, and providing adequate manpower to run these facilities.

5. Encouraging private sector participation: The policy recognizes the role of the private sector in providing healthcare services in the country and encourages their participation in improving the healthcare delivery system. The policy aims to provide a regulatory framework to govern the private sector's role in healthcare.
