Neighbourhood networks during the period c.1206–1550 in India played a critical role in shaping the socio-economic and political structures of urban centres. These networks, often overlooked in conventional political histories, were essential for the day-to-day functioning of cities, trade, administration, and social cohesion. The period under review, which broadly spans the Delhi Sultanate and the regional kingdoms that emerged before the consolidation of Mughal authority, witnessed significant urbanisation, especially in the Indo-Gangetic plain, the Deccan, and parts of peninsular India.
