The present report is based on a seven-day personal social media usage diary maintained to examine patterns of engagement across platforms and to analyse how such usage reflects Indian cultural, linguistic, and regional diversity. The observation period extended from Monday to Sunday, and entries were recorded daily with attention to time spent, type of content consumed, language preferences, interactions, and thematic trends. The objective was to understand how everyday digital practices are shaped by India’s pluralistic social structure. On Day 1 (Monday), total social media usage amounted to approximately three hours. The primary platforms accessed were WhatsApp, Instagram, and YouTube. WhatsApp usage centered on family and community groups, where conversations occurred predominantly in Hindi with occasional use of English phrases. Some older family members preferred voice notes in Hindi, reflecting generational differences in digital literacy and comfort with typing. A regional community group shared information about local events, temple activities, and neighborhood announcements in a mix of Hindi and the local dialect. Instagram usage focused on reels featuring Indian street food, cricket highlights, and short comedy sketches in Hindi and Gujarati. YouTube consumption included news analysis channels in Hindi and English, showing a bilingual pattern common among urban Indian youth. On Day 2 (Tuesday), approximately two and a half hours were spent online. A significant portion of time was devoted to Instagram and Twitter (X).
