Aonla (Emblica officinalis Gaertn.), also known as Indian gooseberry, is an important subtropical fruit crop propagated mainly through vegetative methods to maintain true-to-type plants, early bearing, and uniform yield. Although sexual propagation through seeds is possible, commercial cultivation depends largely on asexual propagation techniques because seedling plants show high variability in growth, fruit size, and yield.
