Write a note on the moral philosophy of Buddhism

The moral life is emphasized in all branches of Buddhism. Buddhists emphasise virtues such as non-violence and compassion and Buddhism counsels us not to do anything to others we would not like done to ourselves. Despite the diversity in the different strands of Buddhism there is much common ground. ‘Buddhist morality’ argues that there is a common moral code underlying the divergent customs, practices, and philosophical teachings of the various schools of Buddhist thought. Branches as diverse as Zen and Tibetan Buddhism have still stemmed from the values of the Buddha in the 5th century BC.
