Victor Vroom’s Expectancy Theory is one of the most well-known and influential theories in the field of motivation, particularly in organizational behavior and administrative theory. ### Key Components of Expectancy Theory

Expectancy Theory is based on three core components: Expectancy, Instrumentality, and Valence. These three factors interact to determine the level of motivation a person will have toward a particular behavior or goal. The theory assumes that employees are rational beings who make decisions about their behavior based on the expected outcomes of their actions.

#### 1. Expectancy (E → P)
Expectancy refers to the belief or perception that one's effort will lead to a desired level of performance. It is the individual's subjective probability or expectation that they can achieve a specific goal or task, given the amount of effort they put in. The higher the expectancy, the more confident the individual is that their effort will lead to success. 

For example, if an employee believes that working harder will improve their performance, they are more likely to exert more effort. If an individual has had positive experiences in the past with similar tasks, they are more likely to have a higher expectancy.
