The Social Contract Theory is an influential concept in political philosophy, which attempts to explain the relationship between the individual and the state. This theory posits that individuals willingly submit themselves to the authority of the state in exchange for protection of their natural rights and the maintenance of order and stability in society. Thomas Hobbes, an English philosopher of the 17th century, is one of the earliest and most well-known social contract theorists. In his book "Leviathan," he argued that without a strong government to maintain order, life would be "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short." According to Hobbes, in a state of nature, individuals are in a constant state of war against each other, driven by their natural instincts to seek self-preservation.
