Acquittal means that the case has come to an end and the accused is not guilty of the charges pressed on him/her. There was no substantial evidence that indicated the accused to be guilty of committing an offence, and due to this reason, he shall be acquitted. It is not to be confused with discharge, since in discharge, the accused may be asked to show up again for further questioning.
