Teaching and learning in the context of extension and development are central to the process of transferring knowledge, skills, and attitudes to communities with the objective of improving their socio-economic and cultural conditions. Unlike formal education, extension teaching emphasizes non-formal and participatory modes of education that are designed to reach farmers, rural households, and marginalized groups. The essence of teaching in extension is not merely the transfer of information but the facilitation of understanding, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Learning, on the other hand, is viewed as a continuous and dynamic process where individuals absorb new ideas, test them in real-life contexts, and integrate them into their day-to-day practices. In the development communication perspective, teaching and learning are reciprocal and interactive, requiring the active participation of both the extension worker and the learner. The process becomes a collaborative effort to identify needs, explore alternatives, and apply innovative solutions to achieve developmental goals. Teaching in extension involves systematic planning of messages, use of appropriate communication channels, and adaptation of knowledge to local contexts. The extension worker assumes the role of a facilitator rather than an authority, guiding learners to explore their environment and adopt practices that are relevant to their needs. Learning, in this regard, is not a passive reception of information but an active engagement with knowledge. For example, a farmer learning about a new irrigation technique does not simply memorize the steps but ______ ___ _____ ___ ________ ___ __________.
