The physical or bodily needs of the prisoners include food, clothing, bedding, šccommodation, sanitation, hygiene, etc. These are the basic needs without which there is no survival. The prisons being closed institUtiOfl there is a gross violation of the rights of the prisoners. The Prison Act of 1894 merely provides that the civil prisoners and unconvicted prisoners can purchase food, clothing, bedding, etc. The Prison Act does not lay down the minimum standard for these needs.

Food and Water

The Prisons Act does not contain elaborate rules on the aspect of food and water only it has mentioned about the same. It is necessary to understand that the elaborate rules are contained in the State Prison Manual.
