In the context of Rural Local Governance, e-Governance has emerged as an important tool for empowering rural communities and improving the functioning of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). The major objective of e-Governance initiatives in rural areas is to bridge the digital divide, provide accessible government services, and ensure effective implementation of rural development programmes. One of the major initiatives of e-Governance in rural areas is the e-Panchayat project. It was launched to strengthen Panchayati Raj Institutions by introducing digital systems in their administrative functioning. It provides a group of software applications that support various activities of Panchayats. Applications such as PlanPlus, PRIASoft, ActionSoft, Area Profiler, Local Government Directory (LGD), and National Panchayat Portal help in preparing development plans, maintaining accounts, monitoring projects, and managing information related to Panchayats.
