Question

Answer :
Word Count : 539
The Mughal administrative system under Akbar introduced the mansabdari system as an important method of organising the nobility and military officials. A mansab was a rank or position assigned to an officer, which determined his status, salary and military obligations. Mansabdars were appointed by the emperor and could be transferred or dismissed according to imperial requirements. The system was further developed under later Mughal rulers, particularly Jahangir and Shah Jahan. Mansabdars were broadly divided into three classes according to the number of cavalrymen they were required to maintain. The classification was based mainly on the relationship between the officer’s zat and sawar ranks. The first class consisted of mansabdars whose sawar rank was equal to their zat rank.
