The Kamata-Kamarupa Kingdom occupies a significant place in the history of medieval Assam and northeastern India. The Kamarupa region, known in early records as Pragjyotisha, existed as a powerful polity from early centuries CE and witnessed successive dynastic rules. After the fall of the Pala dynasty of Kamarupa around the 12th century, the region fragmented into smaller political units. Among these, the Kamata Kingdom emerged as a major successor state during the early 13th century.
