All children with pneumonia do not need hospitalization.Achild who presents with fever and cough and has fast breathing or noisy breathing needs to be evaluated for possibleinfection like pneumonia. The criteria for hospitalization of children with possible pneumonia to FRU are -

Hospitalization at First referral unit
- Fast breathing
 >50 breaths/minute in a child aged 2-12 month
 > 40 breaths/minute in a child aged from 12 months to 5 years
- Lower chest wall indrawing
