How should we mainstream Gender at the grassroots level? Explain through examples drawn from grassroots in India.

Mainstreaming gender at the grassroots level involves integrating a gender perspective into all aspects of development initiatives at the local level, and ensuring that women and girls have equal access to and control over resources, opportunities and decision-making processes. To achieve this, it is necessary to involve women and girls, as well as men and boys, in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development initiatives.

In India, there have been several successful examples of gender mainstreaming at the grassroots level, which can serve as inspiration for other initiatives:- 

1. Self-Help Groups (SHGs) - Self-Help Groups are community-based organizations that bring together women to pool their resources, access credit and build their capacity. Through SHGs, women have the opportunity to participate in decision-making processes and to access resources and services that they may not otherwise have access to. In addition, SHGs provide a supportive environment in which women can discuss issues related to gender and participate in collective action to address these issues.
