Sustainable development is the process of meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It involves balancing economic, social, and environmental considerations in decision-making processes. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted in 2015, provide a comprehensive framework for global action to address various environmental, social, and economic challenges. Among the 17 SDGs, Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities – is particularly important as it focuses on making cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

India, being one of the most populous countries in the world, faces significant challenges in achieving the targets set under SDG 11. However, over the years, India has made substantial progress in addressing issues related to urbanization, infrastructure, housing, and resilience through various government initiatives, policies, and programs.
