Providing Instructional Leadership

Instructional leadership developed during the effective schools' movement of the 1980s. Conventionally understood, the headteacher was viewed as the source of educational expertise. Her role was to manage all the functions directly related to teaching and learning. Management discussions mostly related to regular school routines and activities with bearing on instruction which constituted the core of the headteacher's tasks.

Transformational Leadership

Transformational leadership concerns itself with change and hence the school leader's role here is seen in precipitating the envisioned change. The teachers and others in the organization and the leader are together in this process of bringing about change for higher purposes and for the betterment of the school.
