Explain the role of women in livelihood security

 The impact of modernisation as well as economic liberalization on natural resources is a matter of critical concern. Due to this, control over resources, as a form of livelihood for marginalised groups, especially for women of these groups is threatened.

With the development of new export-oriented agricultural industries by private companies, of the marginaliseil groups has worsened.The natural resource dependent communities are being systematically deprived of their lands and forests. For example, turning forests into plantations may be commercially viable but it deprives tribals of their livelihood. Thus the natural resources began to be treated only as an industrial raw material. Impoverishment and often bondage of the marginalised people are the consequences. Women among them are hit the hardest.

According to the 1991 census, approximately 85% of women workers and 75% of men are dependent on agriculture and allied occupations for their livelihood.
