### IR Spectrometry

Principle  
Infrared spectrometry (IR) is based on the interaction of infrared radiation with matter, specifically the absorption of infrared light by molecules. The primary principle of IR spectrometry is that different chemical bonds within a molecule absorb infrared light at characteristic wavelengths corresponding to the vibrational frequencies of these bonds. When a sample is exposed to infrared radiation, the bonds in the molecules either stretch or bend, absorbing energy at specific frequencies. The energy absorbed is directly related to the type of bond and the mass of the atoms involved. 

In an IR spectrum, the x-axis represents the wavelength (or wavenumber) of the absorbed radiation, and the y-axis represents the intensity of the absorbed energy. The resulting spectrum is a unique "fingerprint" of the molecule, allowing for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
