Explain the historical view of complementarities of ecology and development in India.

The basic requirements of human beings were easily obtainable fiom the immediate surroundings. Rather the number of persons on the land and their aspirations were so limited that there existed a perfect ecological harmony. Thereafter, with the increase in population and with the advent of industrial revolution, the society experienced a dramatic increase in demand for various goods, commodities and services, thereby leading to over-exploitation of the natural resources and in several cases, complete exhaustion. In view of the increasing pressure of population on natural endowments, disparities in economic development and technological and scientific advancement gave immense power to man to make inbcriminate use of the natural resources.
