Here, Macbeth is speaking to the three "weird sisters," who have just hailed him as the thane of Cawdor and said that he "shalt be" the king of Scotland at some point in the future. In terms of the lines' meaning, Macbeth says that he understands that, once his father, Sinel, died, he inherited the title of thane of Glamis, but he does not understand how he could be the thane of Cawdor, because the man who holds that title is still living and quite prosperous (as far as Macbeth knows). Further, Macbeth says, frankly, that it does not make any sense that he could become king.

However, what Macbeth does not know is that the current king, Duncan, has already learned of the old thane of Cawdor's treason, ordered the old thane's execution, and awarded Macbeth the title of thane of Cawdor.
