Analyzing the Prohibition Movement, especially after Gandhi, requires an exploration of its ideological foundations, implementation strategies, and socio-economic impacts in various regions across India. Gandhi's moral persuasion against alcohol consumption was rooted in his broader vision of a self-disciplined, non-violent, and morally upright society. For him, alcohol was not just a personal vice but a social evil that undermined the strength of the nation. After his death in 1948, many of Gandhi's followers and organizations continued to uphold his ideals, including prohibition. One of the first concrete steps toward prohibition in post-independence India came with its inclusion in the Directive Principles of State Policy under Article 47 of the Indian Constitution.
