INTRODUCTION

Known to the world through her poignant and powerful diarisitic memoir, Frank composed Het Achterhuis (Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl) during her years in hiding with her family in a small attic through the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam in the Second World War.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Frank was born Annelies Marie Frank, in Frankfurt, Germany, on June 12, 1929. Her father, Otto Frank, was a successful Jewish businessman in Frankfurt, where Anne and her older sister Margot, had a comfortable and happy childhood. Having witnessed an increasing amount of anti-Semitic sentiment in Germany following the end of the First World War, Otto moved his family to Amsterdam in 1934, following a Nazi decree that made it illegal for Jewish and non-Jewish children to attend the same schools.
