During the 14th to 17th centuries, British poetry and drama developed as central modes of literary expression. These literary forms are not only representative of the cultural and social contexts of the time but also serve as effective tools in teaching the English language in classrooms. Literature from this period, including the works of Geoffrey Chaucer, Edmund Spenser, Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare, and John Donne, provides a rich linguistic and stylistic resource. Using such literature in English language classrooms exposes students to authentic language, nuanced expressions, historical development of the English tongue, and cultural heritage. Various forms of literature from the 14th to 17th centuries can be effectively used in English language classrooms. These include poetry, drama, prose fiction, allegory, ballads, and religious texts. Each form offers unique linguistic, thematic, and pedagogical values. One of the prominent literary forms is narrative poetry, such as Geoffrey Chaucer’s *The Canterbury Tales*. This work is a collection of stories written in Middle English and framed within a pilgrimage narrative. It exposes students to Middle English vocabulary, syntax, and pronunciation. Though it may be challenging, such texts improve students' understanding of the evolution of English language and its phonological and grammatical changes over time. Furthermore, the tales are rich in social commentary and character study, encouraging students to engage in interpretive and critical analysis.
