Economic empowerment of persons with disabilities (PwDs) is a core component of Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) as it directly influences independence, dignity, social inclusion, and quality of life. Ensuring economic empowerment requires a multi-dimensional strategy that addresses individual capabilities, environmental barriers, institutional frameworks, and societal attitudes. One of the most important strategies is inclusive education and skill development. Access to quality education, vocational training, and lifelong learning opportunities enables PwDs to acquire market-relevant skills. Training programs should be adapted to different types of disabilities, using flexible curricula, assistive technologies, sign language interpretation, Braille, and accessible learning environments. Skill development aligned with local labor market needs increases employability and reduces dependency. Promoting inclusive employment is another key strategy. Governments, private sector organizations, and community institutions must work together to create inclusive workplaces. This includes enforcing non-discrimination laws, implementing reservation or quota systems where applicable, and providing reasonable accommodations such as modified workstations, flexible working hours, and accessible transportation.
