 The role of the teacher in helping the students’ oral skills in the class:--

In order to make the classroom more lively and realistic and involve the learners in various types

of speaking skills, the English language teachers have to adopt various innovative techniques and

strategies in the classroom such as communicative language teaching, collaborative learning,

group work and pair work, peer reviews and so on. As the preliminary goal of the teachers is to

develop speaking skills among the learners, they can implement these activities with a proper

motivation and an appropriate introduction. Before going to introduce any task or activity, the

teachers are expected to demonstrate some model conversations, short speeches and discussions

so that the learners understand them well before hand and they can do well while they perform

these tasks. At the initial stages of practising these speaking skills, the teachers have to ask the

learners to redo the same tasks in groups in the classroom and further they are guided to do

similar tasks in different situations. It is the duty of the teachers to give clear guidelines and

instructions as well as the complete information and some introduction to the learners on how to

accomplish the given tasks. With this inspiration and encouragement, the learners try to perform

these tasks themselves by organizing their work in a systematic way. As the role of teachers is

limited as facilitators, they should help the learners whenever they encounter problems. There is

no doubt that the learners are expected to do these tasks on their own, but sometimes they need

the help of their teachers to accomplish the given tasks. Hence, the teacher must cooperate with

them by filling the gaps or by providing with various alternatives related their activities. It is the

main responsibility of the teachers to be very careful in selecting the speaking activities. While

selecting the topics, the teachers have to take into consideration of the learners' needs and

interests that lead the learners to work more on the given topics with interest and enthusiasm.
