Question
Discuss the megascopic and microscopic characters of gabbro with the help of neat well labelled diagrams.
Answer :
Word Count : 494
Gabbro is a coarse–grained basic igneous rock formed by the slow cooling and solidification of magma at considerable depth within the earth’s crust. It is the plutonic equivalent of basalt and represents an important member of the basic intrusive rock family. The megascopic characters of gabbro can be studied easily in hand specimens. In hand sample, gabbro is typically dark coloured, varying from dark grey to black or greenish black. The rock shows a distinctly phaneritic or coarse–grained texture in which individual mineral grains are visible to the naked eye. The essential minerals are plagioclase feldspar and pyroxene, _________ __________ _____ __________ ____ ____ __________ ____.
