Discuss the Marxist approach to study movements.

Since Marxism is sympathetic to lower classes — agricultural, labourers, working classes or peasantry. it aims to end class exploitation. Marxist approach emphasises in studying material conditions of classes. their social relations and attempt by them to improve their conditions. Their attempts include collective action or movements of different classes. Although Marxist perspective has been used to study movements of several sections of society in India, it has been used most prominently to study peasants’ and farmers’ movements. Agricultural labourers’ and workers’ movements. The movements which have been studied include both which happened in colonial and post-colonial periods. Although generally peasants and farmers are generally used interchangeably, there is a difference between them. Peasant is a generic category: farmer is used for agriculturists who use modern technology and are more resourceful than the peasants.
