Chronic illnesses, by their nature, are long-term, often progressive conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or cancer. These conditions not only affect the individual physically but also impact the entire family system, altering its functioning, dynamics, roles, and relationships. In the context of Counselling and Family Therapy: Applications and Interventions, it becomes essential to understand these challenges holistically to provide adequate support and intervention. One of the foremost challenges is emotional stress and psychological burden. Aged parents with chronic illnesses often experience pain, fatigue, memory loss, or mobility restrictions, leading to frustration, depression, or anxiety. Family members, especially primary caregivers, bear the emotional weight of seeing their loved one deteriorate over time.
