1. Objective:  
The primary objective of the PMRY is to provide gainful employment to the educated unemployed youth, particularly from the weaker sections of society, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), women, and other marginalized groups. It encourages self-employment by facilitating loans for setting up small-scale businesses, enterprises, and industries.

2. Target Group:  
The scheme is primarily targeted at unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 35, who are educated at least up to the 8th standard. The scheme has special provisions for vulnerable groups, including SC/ST candidates, women, physically challenged individuals, and those from rural and backward areas. Preference is given to first-generation entrepreneurs, those without prior business experience, and candidates from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

3. Financial Assistance:  
Under PMRY, financial assistance is provided to set up small businesses. The scheme offers financial support in the form of loans, which are typically provided by banks. The loan amount varies depending on the nature of the business and the requirements of the applicant. The maximum loan available is Rs. 1 lakh for individuals and Rs. 2 lakhs for groups or partnerships.
