Plants require various nutrients for growth, development and reproduction. These nutrients are divided into two categories, macro and micro.

Macronutrients are required in large amounts and include carbon (C), oxygen (O), hydrogen (H), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and sulfur (S). These elements are used to form the structural components of plants, such as cell walls, chlorophyll and other pigments, and enzymes.

Phosphorus is critical for root growth and development, as well as for energy storage and transfer within the plant. Nitrogen is important for the formation of chlorophyll and amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins. Sulfur is also a component of certain amino acids and is required for seed production and root growth.
