Pre-Operative Nursing Management

1. Assessment and Stabilization:

• Initial Assessment: Assess the patient's level of consciousness using the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). Evaluate the neurological status, including pupil size and reactivity, motor response, and verbal response. Identify any signs of increased intracranial pressure (ICP), such as severe headache, vomiting, or changes in mental status.
• Vital Signs: Monitor vital signs frequently to detect any changes indicative of deteriorating neurological status. Ensure that blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate are within normal limits.
• Stabilization: Administer oxygen therapy if necessary to maintain adequate oxygenation. Intravenous fluids may be given to maintain blood pressure and hydration. Control any bleeding and prevent secondary brain injury by keeping the patient in a neutral position and avoiding hyperthermia.
