Guidance and counseling have been a vital aspect of higher education. Good teachers have always been interested in providing understanding assistance to students to help hem overcome problems of learning and adjustment so as to ensure optimum achievement and profitable placement. In the ancient Indian Universities like Nalanda and Texila, the learned monks were sagacious and wise in their handling of students. Right from admission of students to these seats of higher learning they were occupied with the process of guidance and counseling, informal and incidental seeing them through to enter the world of work and face life. The process was highly successful as the monks knew the students and no undesirable element could enter or say in the universities.
