### 1. Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP)

The Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP), launched in 1980, was one of the most significant initiatives aimed at reducing poverty in rural India. Its objective was to provide self-employment opportunities for the rural poor by providing subsidized credit for income-generating activities. The main aim of the program was to raise the living standards of the rural poor by promoting self-sufficiency.

Problems in Execution:
One of the major challenges faced by the IRDP was the lack of proper targeting. In many instances, the program failed to reach the most impoverished sections of the rural population. The distribution of benefits often favored the better-off or those with political connections. Moreover, there were reports of the program being misused for political gains, where loans were distributed to individuals who did not require them.
