There are three types of research paradigms in distance education . They are -

1. Empiricist Paradigm
2. Interpretive Paradigm – Phenomenology
3. Critical Paradigm

This paradigm emphasises careful and controlled observation as the basis for knowledge.The observer is dispassionate and independent of the object of observation. Knowledge isobjective, generalisable and can be used to predict and control future events.
