It involves enhancing one’s capacity to participate fully in social, economic, political, and cultural spheres. Empowerment is not merely the granting of rights from above; it is a transformative process in which people become aware of their rights, develop self-confidence, access opportunities, and challenge structures of inequality and marginalization. In the context of marginalized communities such as tribal societies, empowerment has special significance because these communities have historically experienced social exclusion, economic deprivation, and cultural marginalization. Women within tribal societies often face a double layer of disadvantage—first as members of indigenous or tribal groups and second as women within patriarchal or semi-patriarchal structures. Therefore, women empowerment among tribes must be understood as a multidimensional process encompassing social, economic, political, educational, and cultural aspects. Tribal societies in India and other parts of the world are characterized by close-knit communities, strong kinship systems, and a deep connection with nature.
