b) Classification of hypertension:

Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is classified based on the level of blood pressure measured during diagnosis. The classification of hypertension is as follows:

  1. Normal blood pressure: A systolic blood pressure of less than 120 mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure of less than 80 mmHg are considered normal.

  2. Elevated blood pressure: A systolic blood pressure ranging between 120-129 mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure less than 80 mmHg are classified as elevated blood pressure.

  3. Stage 1 hypertension: A systolic blood pressure ranging between 130-139 mmHg or a diastolic blood pressure between 80-89 mmHg are classified as stage 1 hypertension.

b) A 67 years old female patient presented with complaints of fever, headache, and vomiting for the past 1 week, photophobia & altered sensorium for the past 3 days. On examination the patient was conscious, Pulse: 110 beats/min, Blood pressure: 100/70 mmHg & temperature 100.6 oF. Five months prior to this admission he was admitted wor an abdominal abscess with iliac vein thrombosis that was treated with piperacillin-tazobactam and amikacin. In the month preceding his admission, he had sepsis due to extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli that was treated with imipenem. 

a) A 68 year old male patient came to you with complaints of misplacing things and forgetfulness for past 3 weeks. He also complained of feeling low, difficulty in getting out of bed, poor appetite. He was recently laid off from his workplace due to poor vision. On examination, he is able to answer your questions and follow your commands.
